Issue Summary

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally, accounting for approximately 17.3 million deaths each year—and estimated to increase to 23.6 million fatalities annually by 2030. Although lifestyle factors such as a healthy diet and regular exercise play a large role in maintaining heart health, natural ingredients also have their place, and can positively influence potential risk factors, such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

In addition to reviewing the science, regulatory matters and market considerations driving the heart health category, this issue contains insight from several Ingredient Marketplace speakers. Among them is Matthew Roberts, Ph.D., who will take the stage during a special Heart Health Marketplace workshop on Thursday, April 20, as part of Ingredient Marketplace in Orlando, Florida. Natural Marketing Institute (NMI) will also be presenting.
