FAIRFIELD, N.J.—A&B Ingredients and Imagilin Technology LLC announced a new line of probiotics—PA5051—based on Pediococcus acidilactici.

A&B said the new probiotic is a more robust and stable strain that can withstand high temperatures up to 185 degrees for a prolonged period of time, and it is able to survive in highly acidic conditions. It’s a natural lactic acid probiotic that is non-spore forming, so it does not require any specialized handling or clean-up procedures.

A&B Ingredients’ managing director Gil Bakal said that the parent strain of PA5051 is cultivated from nature, so it has developed the ability to withstand stresses that most probiotics are not able to tolerate. Bakal also said it’s a safe bacteria with a history of food applications that can also survive the digestive system to deliver live bacteria to the intestines, which helps with digestion. It’s also compatible with antibiotics.
