<em>Trans</em> fatty acids are on a path for further reduction as FDA continues to prioritize the decrease of partially hydrogenated oils in foods.

FDA has made it a high priority to continue to reduce partially hydrogenated oils in foods. As such, food companies have focused reformulation and development efforts on further reduction of trans fatty acids. Barbara Schneeman, professor emerita, department of nutrition, University of California, Davis, highlights the landscape, and the resulting need for more specific guidelines regarding trans fatty acid claims.
