Proposed Changes to Nutrition Labeling

Although a final rule has not been released, food companies are advised to begin reviewing—and preparing for—FDA’s proposed nutrition label changes.

FDA’s proposed changes to nutrition labeling affect both the format and content. From serving sizes, calorie declarations and fiber specifications to total and added sugar breakdowns, many components may be greatly impacted. Betty Campbell, senior advisor at EAS Consulting Group, urges food manufacturers to study the proposals and begin preparing for them now—particularly as some companies may opt to reformulate.
