Boswellia Extract May Improve Osteoarthritis Symptoms

CARMEL, Ind.--Geni Inc. announced the results of a double blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, which will be presented at Vitafoods in May, involving Boswellia serrata extract of Salki Guggul (CapWokvel, manufactured by Pharmanza India) for reducing pain and swelling in osteoarthritic patients. Thirty osteoarthritic patients were switched from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) to a supplement regimen consisting of 333 mg of boswellia three times daily for eight weeks. According to Geni (www.geniherbs.com), all patients reported decreased knee pain and knee swelling. Patients also reported increased knee flexion, walking distance, capacity of climbing stairs, ability in kneeling, crossed legged sitting and squatting. The knee range of movement was also improved.
