Joint health product consumers are getting younger, bringing an interest in new delivery forms, such as gummies, but they are sticking with traditional ingredients to maintain flexibility.

While the older population still drives most trends related to joint health, younger generations have increased their interest in taking joint health supplements as a preventative measure rather than paying for medical treatments down the road. Well-known supplements such as omega-3s, probiotics and vitamin D continue to grow in popularity, but glucosamine and chondroitin remain the leaders in the joint health sector.

Supplements continue to spread across a wide variety of formats, and in 2013, sales of gummies and softgels for joint health increased significantly, continuing the upward trajectory of chewable varieties next to the pill and capsule forms. Manufacturers remain adamant in creating more convenient and customizable formats for consumers who want to tailor their supplement consumption based on individual needs.

Though recent health care changes cause uncertainty for some people concerned with possible health issues in the future, a shift toward preventative health measures continues driving more demographics to investigate a variety of supplements in new, more convenient formats.
