Food Insider Journal Tackles Clean Label Strategy and Formulation

In March 2017, Informa’s Global Health & Nutrition Network, publisher of Natural Products INSIDER, launched Food Insider Journal, a new media brand focused on clean-label strategy and formulation, and how the shift to simple and natural is affecting the food and beverage market.

Each month, a new digital journal dives into different aspects of the clean-label movement and the outcome-targeted functional food space. Expert blog contributions, videos and infographics fuel a robust online presence to provide further insights that can drive product ideation and business growth.

The March premiere issue— “Organic & Non-GMO: Exploring the Consumer Disconnect"—takes a deep dive into the hot topic of non-GMO (genetically modified organism), including its relation to organic, and illustrates the market opportunity using the fast-growing dairy segment. Innovation in Action case studies showcases how three dairy companies—Organic Valley, a2 Milk and Maple Hill Creamery—have found an underserved niche in their categories, and the lessons learned.

The April issue—“Sweeteners: Balancing Label, Taste"—explores how food and beverage makers are balancing label and taste concerns when working with alternative sweeteners, including factors contributing to the heightened awareness of sugar reduction. The issue also illustrates the beverage segment and highlighted how brands are working to reduce sugar and calories while maintaining the taste consumers desire. The case studies focused on two past SupplySide West CPG Editor’s Choice Award winners—Reeds Inc. and Lotus Botanical Elixirs—and how they are applying clean label to their products.

Future issues will explore considerations around formulation and labeling in the “free from" space; and supply chain sustainability and how to accurately share that message with consumers; sodium reduction and factors impacting the snack foods sector; and more.
