Psoriasis May Benefit From Extract

BERKELEY, Calif.--A study in the January edition of Phytotherapy Research (15: 76-8, 2001) (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) reported that French maritime pine bark extract (Pycnogenol ) may benefit psoriasis--a chronic, recurrent skin disorder characterized by reddish, slightly elevated bumps--and other dermatological conditions. In research led by Rihn Salious from the University of California, Berkeley, researchers found that the extract decreased the expression of two genes--which are overly active in psoriasis and other skin conditions--by nearly 22 times.
