The very first annual SupplySide West Golf Classic took place at McCormick Ranch Golf Club and was sponsored by Henkel Corp. in 1997. Players swung their clubs on the Desmond Muirhead designed 18-hole Palm Course, which has ten water holes and is more than 7,000 yards long. This course offered a variety of difficulty levels for players. Players could look forward to the 18th hole, as it was the signature hole because of its unique, island fairway, which was included among America's top 18 water holes as selected by Golf Illustrated at the time. Tournament players had the opportunity to win awards for first, second and third place teams, men’s and women’s longest drive, men’s and women’s closest to the pin, and hole-in-one, with the hole-in-one prize being a 1997 vehicle.
