The cognitive aspect of athletic performance has grown in importance to sports nutrition consumers over the past several years. Reaction time, focus, attention, concentration, memory and processing all affect how well an athlete executes a game or training plan.

Kemin turned to special strains of spearmint to develop a cognitive performance ingredient, Neumentix, an extract rich in polyphenols such as rosmarinic and salvianolic acids. These compounds help fight free radicals that can otherwise damage neurons; the ingredient may even help foster new neuronal growth and promote retention of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that affects working memory.
