Description:
It is rare for a new, nutritionally-dense food source, with high
concentrations of beneficial nutrients, to become available for use in
dietary supplements. Dunaliella salina, whole-dried marine
microalgae, is one such food source.
Find out why this microscopic single cell marine phytoplankton
is arguably the world’s "super food" of super foods and
such a treasure find for natural whole food medicine.
Background:
Dunaliella salina is a very primitive single-celled marine microalgae
that lives in coastal waters and salt water lakes. It has evolved to
live in extreme environmental conditions. Dunaliella salina is a
whole plant that contains an impressive range of bioavailable
macro and micronutrients. It is nature’s richest source of
natural dietary carotenoids, important vitamins found in
fruit and vegetables. Dunaliella salina cells
are packed with minerals, vitamins, proteins, amino acids,
essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, chlorophyll and
other phytonutrients. They are a powerful source
of antioxidants and contain nutrients that help maintain
vitality, a healthy immune system, skin and eyes. Carotenoids
help reduce the risk of premature aging and chronic diseases.
They aid in
cell communication and protection. Recent studies have
shown whole-dried Dunaliella salina can aid in the
chelating and detoxification of toxic elements and heavy metals
from the body.
Presenters:
Marc Cohen, MBBS, Ph.D., FAMAC, FICAE, is currently the Foundation
Professor of Complementary Medicine at RMIT University and president of
the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association. He has degrees in
Western medicine, physiology and psychological medicine along with
doctorates in Chinese medicine and biomedical engineering. He is an expert
advisor to the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration's (TGA)
Complementary Medicine Evaluation Committee (CMEC). Cohen co-authored the
book Herbs and Natural Supplements an Evidenced-Based Guide, which
was short listed for the Award for Excellence in Educational Publishing.
He has also edited eight books on holistic health and authored more than a
dozen book chapters.
Zac Bobrov is a senior nutritional consultant for NutriMed (Group), Australia, concentrating in the study and development of whole dried Dunaliella salina cells in general health care and nutraceutical applications. His area of particular interest is the use of tissue mineral analysis in detecting nutritional imbalances and toxic burdens using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and specializes in the use of nutritional and whole food therapies. He regularly lectures at colleges and health conferences on the use of antioxidant, chelation and mineral therapies. Bobrov was awarded the best scientific poster presentation at the recent International Holistic Health Conference, held by the Australian Integrative Medicine Association, for his research on the effectiveness of Dunaliella salina, whole dried marine microalgae, in the chelating and detoxification of toxic minerals and heavy metals from the body.
