BENICIA, Calif.–Zychrome™ (from InterHealth Nutraceuticals)  impacted insulin levels and function more than chromium picolinate by 1.4-fold and 2.0-fold, respectively, in a study presented by InterHealth’s lead scientist, Francis Lau, Ph.D., FACN, at the 52nd American College of Nutrition Meeting in Morriston, NJ, Nov. 16 to 19.

The study showed 400 mcg/d Zychrome, an enhanced chromium ingredient, significantly better compared to baseline (30-percent improvement) at increasing insulin function after three months. Chromium picolinate did not significantly affect insulin levels or function. Zychrome also significantly decreased inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) by 21 percent and protein carbonyl by 10 percent. Both TNF-a and protein carbonyl are closely associated with oxidative stress and insulin function.

In a recent survey of diabetes educators, more than 88 percent indicated that the results of the comparative study between Zychrome and chromium picolinate support the conclusion that Zychrome is superior to chromium picolinate for insulin management. More than 70 percent would recommend Zychrome over chromium picolinate if available on the market.
