BENICIA, Calif.—InterHealth Nutraceuticals launched Merastin™, its weight management ingredient. Merastin is a proprietary blend of two plant extracts, Sphaeranthus indicus flower heads and Garcinia mangostana fruit rind. Each plant contributes an essential part of Merastin’s ability to affect multiple pathways involved in fat cell formation and breakdown.
Preliminary results from two randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies by the company found Merastin works in two weeks to significantly reduce body weight as well as reduce hip and waist circumference. Preliminary results from the second clinical study demonstrating significant weight loss of more than four pounds at two weeks and significant weight loss of more than 11 pounds at eight weeks were presented at the 2011 Experimental Biology meeting in April in Washington.
