BRUSSELS—An EAS workshop will cover European nutrition and health claims regulation for the natural products industry, focusing on the latest developments and planning for the future. The workshop, set for Nov. 24, 2011, in Brussels, will also offer insights into submitting a successful application for authorization to EFSA.

The first part of the workshop will look at the present regulations and include information on the final steps and decision process toward the “Union list" of Article 13.1 claims, and the status of the process for submitted information on selected “grey list" claims (probiotics and insufficient claims).

The second section of the workshop will explain the claims authorization process and provide an in-depth analysis of the lessons learned from positive and negative EFSA opinions. In the “planning for the future," section of the workshop, experts will cover day-to-day practical problems the application of the claims regulation already has and will have in future, including ensuring  conformity during the transition periods and preparing for the moment the list of article 13.1 claims will be adopted.

The workshop will wrap up with a section that covers the interplay of the nutrition and health claims regulation with other legislation.

EAS gave a similar workshop in June 2011.
