IRVINE, Calif., and VEENDAM, The Netherlands—Cyvex Nutrition will assume all duties relating to SolaThin™’s sales, promotion, support and further development, according to a distribution alliance it made with Solanic. SolaThin is a weight-management ingredient available for the food, beverage and dietary supplement industries.
Under this new alliance, SolaThin™ will also be further studied in a human clinical trial involving 60 adult subjects, with three treatment arms expected to be completed by fourth quarter of 2011.
SolaThin™, introduced to the U.S. market in March 2011 by Cyvex Nutrition, is a pure potato protein extract consisting of several low-molecular weight proteins, including protease inhibitor PI-2. PI-2 enables the release of cholecystokinin (CKK), a naturally occurring peptide clinically shown to produce a feeling of gastric fullness, and thereby helping reduce food consumption. Additionally, SolaThin™ contains no added compounds and features more than 90-percent protein, PI-2 included, to promote satiety and healthful, effective weight control.
Cyvex Nutrition provides proprietary, condition-specific ingredients to the nutraceutical. In late 2010, Cyvex Nutrition was acquired by Omega Protein Corp., a producer of omega-3 fish oil and specialty ingredients for use in functional foods and nutritional supplements. Every Cyvex Nutrition ingredient is guaranteed by the company's NutriPrint® quality assurance system, which includes identity testing of incoming raw materials through FT-NIR, third-party certification by independent laboratories for active ingredients, microbiology, heavy metals and pesticide and solvent residue when applicable.
Solanic is an AVEBE Group company and produces non-GMO natural vegetable proteins. The Solanic organization is fully integrated in the regular AVEBE quality, safety and sustainability systems and procedures.
