VEJLE, Denmark—Gumlink and Ingredia Nutritional introduced a chewing gum concept formulated with Lactium®. The product is intended to reduce stress-related symptoms. This concept has been created using Gumlink’s patented Bi-layered compressed chewing gum, which is suitable as a delivery system for active ingredients, such as Ingredia’s Lactium. Lactium is an active ingredient derived from the protein found in cows’ milk. It has been clinically proven to reduce stress related symptoms such as tension, insomnia, high blood pressure and more. Until now it has not yet been seen in a chewing gum. In addition to the functional benefits of Lactium, chewing gum by itself is accompanied by several inherent benefits, which among others include stress relief while chewing.
As stress-related symptoms are present in many situations, the potential scope of such a product is fairly broad. An area with especially high potential is smoke cessation. When a smoker begins to quit smoking they enter into a stressful period with symptoms such as: insomnia, tension, anxiety, snacking, concentration difficulty and more. A chewing gum with Lactium would be able to aid these symptoms and support the tobacco withdrawal process and Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
