MANNO, Switzerland—CRN-I, the international subsidiary of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), will hold its second scientific symposium in Bad Soden, Germany, on Nov. 12, 2011. The symposium, “Nutrition Issues in Codex: Health Claims and Nutrient Reference Values," is designed to bring together international regulators, policymakers, nutrition scientists and academics to engage in science-based discussions on nutrition issues related to the Codex Alimentarius.
John Hathcock, Ph.D., senior vice president, scientific and international affairs, CRN-I, stated: “This symposium will include presentations on two critically important Codex matters. Our expert presenters will take an in-depth look at the issue of scientific standards for label claims and Codex guidelines—a topic we opened up at last year’s symposium in Geneva. In addition, we’re going to begin to address the questions surrounding Nutrient Reference Values and the implications of how they’re defined by Codex. Our speakers with established expertise will present scientifically authoritative views, including analysis and specific detailed suggestions as to how Codex could consider addressing these issues using current scientific evidence."
The one-day conference will immediately precede the official meeting of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU). The symposium is open to Codex delegates and their staff, regulators from Codex-member countries, selected academic researchers, and CRN-I members. Space is limited.
