MILAN, Italy—Indena has entered into an exclusivity agreement in Canada and for some U.S. distribution channels with Jamieson Laboratories to use Polinacea® as the key ingredient in its groundbreaking FluShield™ formula.

Polinacea is a uniquely advanced form of Echinacea angustifolia with high concentrations of immune-boosting polysaccharides. Studies support the effectiveness of this selectively bred flu-fighting formula to boost the immune system to better resist viral infections.

The Polinacea extract is the result of a triple standardized pharmaceutical process that highlights the most beneficial plant compounds—echinacosides and polysaccharides—and removes the immune-suppressing isobutylamides that commonly occur in other echinacea formulas.

“This unique triple standardization achieves a specific immune-boosting capacity and ensures that Polinacea has a direct immunological effect on T cells," said Christian Artaria, Indena’s marketing director and head of Functional Food Development.

“Jamieson Laboratories is very proud to introduce FluShield to North America. Echinacea angustifolia

is a well-known North American wildflower and has been utilized extensively as a traditional herbal medicine. However, Jamieson’s proprietary LPX3 formula (Polinacea) now delivers a unique and effective natural flu-fighting supplement to the North American market where up to 2 percent of the population suffers from the flu every year," said Gary Leong, Jamieson’s vice president, Scientific &

Technical Affairs.
