LEHI, Utah—The United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) announced a regulatory seminar, “Advertiser Beware: The New World of Dietary Supplement & Functional Beverage Advertising Practices, Substantiation Standards and Enforcement Actions," set for Sept. 24, 2010. Attendees will receive an update on key regulatory issues including FTC consent orders, the role of social media, industry self-regulation programs and more. Speakers and topics include:

  • Richard Cleland, FTC: Anatomy of a Consent Order
  • Gary Coody, FDA: Fraud, Deception and Public Safety
  • David Hart, Oregon Department of Justice: A State’s Perspective on Consumer Protection
  • Adam Ismail, GOED: Perspectives on Omega-3 Product Claims
  • Harry B. Rice, Ph.D., UNPA: Review of BBB/NAD Cases Involving Dietary Supplement Advertising Claims

Loren Israelsen, executive director, commented: "We rarely have a chance to have both the FDA and FTC together in a forum such as this. … We are tired of hearing about the ‘unregulated dietary supplement industry.’ Come and learn why we keep hearing this and what can be done to restore consumer confidence in dietary supplement claims and advertising."
