WASHINGTON—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) released details on its annual event, The Workshop: A Day of Science, which takes place immediately before The Conference, the association’s annual symposium. The Workshop is set for Sept. 29, 2010, and The Conference will run from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2; the events will take place in Austin, Texas.

The Workshop will open with a keynote address from Eileen Kennedy, D.Sc., Tufts University, whose presentation, “Overfed and Undernutrified,” will provide a global look at the role of dietary supplements in helping consumers meet their nutritional needs. The following scientific sessions will each focus on a different aspect of research in the dietary supplement field: biomarkers, how science influences government policy, nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, and the application of nanotechnology research to supplements. The day concludes with a joint networking reception with attendees of the annual conference.

“Pathways to Our Consumers” is this year’s theme for The Conference, which begins Thursday morning and runs through lunchtime on Saturday. A keynote presentation on Friday will feature Keith R. McFarland, best-selling author and technology CEO. Session topics over the three days include dietary supplement regulation, advertising and marketing, health care reform, supplements and general preventive wellness, a CEO panel, and a look at the political landscape with a senior political analyst from TIME magazine. The event will also include the CRN Annual Business meeting, presentation of the Apple Awards and an update on the “Life…supplemented” campaign. Special events include CRN’s Annual Golf Tournament and an Herb Garden Tour at the American Botanical Council (ABC).

Registration is now open, and details are available online.
