DUSSELDORF & DORTMUND, Germany— Cognis and InterMed Discovery (IMD) announced their ongoing strategic alliance has yielded two new active compounds that are currently being tested for efficacy. Cognis exclusively licensed the active ingredients, one for weight management and one for cognitive function, from IMD. Cognis previously licensed four other ingredients from IMD targeting weight management and heart health; those ingredients are currently in pre-clinical and clinical testing awaiting scale-up.
In March 2008, Cognis and IMD announced their intent to work together to discover innovative ingredients with market potential. “Developing breakthrough innovations that are backed by strong science and deliver proven health benefits is a crucial part of our value-driven innovation strategy,” said Bernhard Müller, director global R&D/technology, Cognis Nutrition & Health. “We are following a holistic approach to create new concepts that meet consumer requirements. This generates added value for our customers allowing them to differentiate themselves from their competitors. These latest ingredients will further strengthen our product portfolio in important global growth markets. We expect the first product to hit the market within the next years.”
