NOBLESVILLE, Ind.—To assist dietary supplement manufacturers in complying with the current GMPs (good manufacturing practices), Mark Roman, Ph.D., of Tampa Bay Analytical Research Laboratories (TBAR) and Jana Hildreth of Blaze Science Industries (BSI) are offering a one-day course—“Development and Validation of Analytical Methods for Dietary Supplements”—on analytical method development and validation for dietary supplements.

Held at the TradeWinds Hotel in St. Pete’s Beach, Fla. on July 10, 2010, the course, sponsored in part by Verdure Sciences, is open to all involved with quality control and quality assurance of dietary supplements, including technicians, supervisors and managers. The course will be held in conjunction with the 51st annual meeting of the American Society of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemical Society of North America.

“The course has been structured to teach a systematic approach to method development and optimization, and particularly how to perform a single laboratory validation in compliance with AOAC and ICH guidelines,” said Hildreth. “We anticipate this workshop will offer valuable and documented training, important especially now with GMPs coming into full force.”

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for the course, supporting GMP training requirements. Limited seats are available, and reservations are required.

Workshop Background: The development of this course was funded by the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) at NIH through a government contract to Blaze Science Industries LLC. Roman and Hildreth have both partnered with NIH and NIST in the development of analytical testing methods and reference materials, and are currently working on an NIH-ODS funded validation of an analytical method for the determination of catechins and caffeine in green tea products, for submission to the Journal of AOAC International. Roman currently serves as Subject Matter Expert on Dietary Supplements for AOAC.  This workshop is also supported by Verdure Sciences.
