COSTA MESA, Calif.— Alkemists Labs worked with Green Mountain Energy Co. to create detailed CO2 emissions footprint, and has offset 100 percent of its estimated emissions through a combination of Renewable Energy Credits, Forest Sequestration Offsets and Biomass Offsets. Measurements included the emissions impact of annual electricity, refrigerant and natural gas usage, employee commuting and corporate air travel.
“We discovered that we are responsible for the emissions of approximately 73 metric tons of CO2,” said Elan Sudberg, CEO. “By offsetting our emissions, it has the same environmental impact as recycling over 400,000 aluminum cans and recycling over 64,000 pounds of newspaper.”
Sudberg added the company is also looking to partner with other companies in the industry to develop HPTLC testing alternatives to routine analytical techniques for plant-based products, in hopes of developing tests that use fewer chemicals and energy, and produce less waste. He said, “If a customer is screening or conducting in-process testing, and we can develop an alternative HPTLC method with a specified LOD or can confirm presence/absence for a given compound that meets their needs, we’ll be able to expand our Green business practice in step with our clients.”
