LACEY, Wash.—Aloecorp, Inc., an international grower and supplier of Aloe vera, has announced that it is the first aloe ingredient supplier in the U.S. to have GRAS status affirmed for the use of its Qmatrix® Aloe vera product in foods, beverages and supplements.

Aloecorp has conducted extensive scientific studies over the past two years to develop its GRAS dossier. An independent panel of scientific experts has now reviewed Aloecorp’s recently published safety data and concluded that Aloecorp’s Aloe vera Qmatrix® ingredient is GRAS for use in food and beverage products developed in the U.S.

“As part of the GRAS approval process, an expert panel was provided with extensive Qmatrix® ingredient information, including the ingredient’s usage history, summary of anticipated daily intake, and literature research,” said KS Yoon, Aloecorp’s President and CEO.

Aloecorp’s Vice President and Chief Science Officer, Ken Jones, said: “GRAS status significantly expands applications of Qmatrix® to include its use in foods and beverages.  Achieving self-affirmed GRAS status for our Qmatrix® Aloe vera ingredient enables manufacturers to use our products in a wide range of foods and beverages. This allows Aloecorp to offer Qmatrix® and the many health benefits of aloe to the food industry in order to contribute to the overall health of consumers."

Aloecorp will exhibit at IFT, July 18–20, 2010, Chicago, booth #7006.
