SAN ANTONIO—According to a study presented at the American Stroke Association's annual stroke conference, regular coffee drinking may reduce the risk of stroke. The study followed 23,000 men and women for approximately 12 years. Subjects who reported drinking coffee had a 27-percent lower risk of stroke than subject that reported never drinking coffee. It was also noted, a higher consumption of coffee was not associated with a greater risk reduction.
Study leader, Yangmei Li, an epidemiologist at the University of Cambridge in England, said, “[The reduced risk was] irrespective of the type of coffee consumed, caffeinated, decaffeinated, instant or ground.”
