WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.— ConsumerLab.com released the first in a planned series of reports covering dietary supplements marketed for weight management. In reviewing products marketed as containing conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), the company found all but one product contained the labeled amount of the active ingredient; the remaining product contained 82 percent of claimed CLA. ConsumerLab expects to release reports on dietary supplements containing chromium, green tea, 7-Keto DHEA and caffeine in early February 2010.

ConsumerLab includes the names of companies involved in the review in its general news release, but doesn’t indicate which ones passed or failed testing, nor the levels of active ingredients in the products. However, the reports with complete findings are available for purchase from ConsumerLab.

The report on CLA products provides findings for six products randomly selected for testing, as well as four additional products that passed the same testing under ConsumerLab.com’s Voluntary Certification Program, whereby companies can pay to have their products tested by ConsumerLab. It also includes information about one product similar to those tested but sold under a different brand name.
