WASHINGTON—The National Confectioners Association's (NCA) 2009 Halloween Survey revealed that classic chocolate treats and traditional sweets will dominate trick-or-treaters' selections with 52 percent of Americans planning on handing out chocolate Oct. 31.

Rounding out the Top 5 Halloween candy treats are hard candy and lollipops (30 percent); chewy or gummi candy (19 percent); chewing or bubble gum (16 percent); and caramel treats (14 percent).

The survey also revealed that four in 10 adults admit that they purposely keep treats behind, and nearly one-third admit they will pocket at least a handful or more of goodies from the treat bowl for themselves.
