PURCHASE, N.Y.—Nutrition 21 announced it received notice that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a positive safety assessment regarding the use of chromium picolinate in dietary supplements. The assessment is an initial step in the procedure for formal allowance to use chromium picolinate in dietary supplements in the European Union.

Nutrition 21, which produces Chromax® chromium picolinate, retained Cantox Health Sciences International to assist in the submission of the safety dossier to EFSA. The company is already working on business development projects with potential strategic customers to distribute Chromax throughout Europe, pending formal EFSA approval.
