Tests conducted by Choice, an Australian consumer group, seemed to indicate two weekly servings of fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as sardines and salmon, can boost brain function as much as or more than pills containing ginkgo biloba, brahmi and fish oil. The group said its tests of supplements revealed fish oil supplements contained less of the maximum daily dietary target of omega-3. As for ginkgo, the A$1.0 million ($0.9 million USD) Aussies reportedly spend on ginkgo biloba supplements has little evidence to support their purchase for brain health issues.
"Supplements or herbal products are not the smart option. But eating more fish certainly is," said Christopher Zinn, Choice spokesman, in a statement.
