USANA Sales Inch Upward, Costs Damage Earnings

USANA Health Sciences reported a 1.5-percent second quarter sales growth to $109.2 million, thanks to new incentive programs for its distributor/associates and to stronger foreign currencies. The Asian Region (10-percent growth) outperformed North America, which dipped more than 3 percent on lower-than-expected sales. Such are these hard times, however, as higher operating costs lowered earnings per share six cents to $0.62 per share, despite the overall sales gains.
