BASEL, Switzerland—Lonza is expanding its manufacturing capacity for vitamin B3 (nicotinates) with plans to invest CHF 50 million ($49.5 million USD) over the next three years to build a facility that will ultimately permit a 40 percent increase over current manufacturing capacity. The company currently operates manufacturing facilities in Visp, Switzerland, and in Guangzhou and Nansha, China; options for the new site location are under consideration, with market synergies and manufacturing opportunities among the factors. Lonza plans to bring the first phase of expansion online in 2010, followed by full operation—adding 15,000 metric tons of product per year—by 2011.
