ATLANTA—Frost & Sullivan awarded its 2008 Best Practices Award for North American Protein Product Innovation to AHD International for its Luravida Cranberry Protein Powder. The award recognized AHD for launching its fruit protein powder, developed via a patented cold processing technology, which delivers 25 percent complete protein as well as significant levels of essential fatty acids (EFAs), dietary fiber and minerals. The ingredient also contains a high level of naturally occurring proanthocyanidins. Frost & Sullivan research analyst Christopher Shanahan stated, “The new protein powder manufactured from cranberry seed extract has the potential to capture a significant portion of the protein market in the near future. Besides being 100 percent natural and a rich protein source, the product is a storehouse of numerous properties that are highly beneficial and not found in other, more common protein sources.” John Alkire, president, AHD International, added, “With the benefits of antioxidant-rich cranberries well-established, our Luravida Cranberry Protein Powder provides several health- enhancing properties, including fiber and EFAs, that consumers are eager to incorporate into their diet. As innovation is AHD’s driving force, we are pleased to accept this award and look forward to further promoting this ingredient’s application in functional beverage products, protein bars and other functional foods.”
