PALMYRA, Wis.—Standard Process presented two posters at the Experimental Biology conference on April 9. Paul Hanlon, Ph.D., manager of discovery science at Standard Process, conducted a series of experiments examining the effects of orange, yellow, red and white crude carrot extracts on prostate cell proliferation. All the carrot varieties inhibited prostate cancer cell reproduction; however, the white carrot had the highest level of bioactivity.
Brandon Metzger, Ph.D., candidate in Nutritional Sciences at University of Wisconsin, Madison, and research scientist at Standard Process, also examined purple carrots for their makers on inflammation. Even though purple pigments are usually considered the bioactive phytochemicals, Metzger found polyacetylene compounds were responsible for the anti-inflammatory effects in his scientific model.
