AHPA Urges FDA To Deny Unsupported Weight Loss Petition

SILVER SPRING, Md.—The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) filed comments Oct. 7 with FDA highlighting serious flaws in the rationale of a Citizen Petition led by GlaxoSmithKline requesting FDA treat weight loss claims for dietary supplements as disease claims.

AHPA President Michael McGuffin argued the petition would “contravene Congressional intent and public policy, and would be unconstitutional under the First Amendment.”
