Vitamin E, Carotenoids Related to Lipid Metabolism

MARSEILLE, France—Vitamin E and carotenoids are fat-soluble micronutrients carried by plasma lipoproteins. Data on their plasma concentrations are scarce, prompting researchers in France to investigate their involvement in lipid metabolism (American Society for Nutrition J. Nutr. 2007; 137: 2653-59). To verify the hypothesis as to whether the plasma status of vitamin E and carotenoids are related to genes involved in lipid metabolism, they measured fasting vitamin E and carotenoid concentrations in 48 males and 80 females.

Results suggest genes in lipid metabolism may influence the plasma concentrations of vitamin E and carotenoids.
