WORCESTER, Mass.—BioActives was awarded a new U.S. patent (No. 7,297,803) covering a process for the preparation of lutein ester concentrate. According to the company (BioActives.com), the patent discusses a cost-effective method for making lutein esters, which can lead to a 50-percent cost savings for customers. The process takes advantage of a broader range of marigold oleoresins as a raw material which can lower costs and make backward integration less difficult. Bioactives is also offering a technology license that would include technology transfer to any contract manufacturer, technology for producing beadlets for hard caps and tablets, and technology for producing oil dispersions for soft gels.
