FDA Seizes More Misbranded Supplements

by Steve Myers
10/15/2007

WASHINGTON—At the request of FDA, U.S. Marshals seized approximately $71,000 of goods from FulLife Natural Options Inc., a Boca Raton, Fla.-based marketer and distributor of Charantea Ampalaya Capsules and Charantea Ampalaya Tea; the agency alleges the products were labeled as dietary supplements, but were promoted to treat serious conditions, such as diabetes, anemia and hypertension. FDA said the seizure was to protect the public from unapproved drugs, which these products are considered because they make claims related to the prevention or treatment of diseases on their labeling.

This is the second such action by FDA in the last two months; the agency prompted U.S. Marshals in the Northern District of Florida to seize an estimated $41,000 worth of inventory in late August from a Tallahassee, Fla.-based distributor. Glucobetic, Neuro-betic, Ocu-Comp, Atri-Oxi, Super-Flex, MSM-1000 and Atri-E-400 capsules were being promoted and distributed by Charron Nutrition for use in treating diabetes, arthritis and other serious health conditions.
