Nature's Way Recalls Certain Lots of Nettle Product Containing Excessive Lead Levels

SPRINGVILLE, Utah--Nature's Way Products Inc. (www.naturesway.com) recalled four lots of its Nature's Way brand Nettle capsules because they contained excessive amounts of lead. The company stated the problem has been traced to a single batch of raw material used to manufacture the currently recalled products.

According to the Associated Press, Nature's Way first heard of the problem when the California attorney general's office contacted the company after a random testing program turned up the lead. In the meantime, the company is working with the supplier to uncover how lead got into the products, although the company did not elaborate how much excessive lead was found. No consumer health problems have been reported to the company.

The affected lots (131237, 131238, 140738 and 215229) were distributed nationwide between October 2001 and May 2002. The capsules are packaged in 100-count plastic bottles with green lids under the Nature's Way brand.

Consumers who bought a product carrying these lot numbers can call the company for a full refund at (800) 283-3323. Nature's Way did not return calls for comment by press time.
