Bayer Buying Aventis CropScience

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.-Bayer will pay just over 7.25 billion Euro for Aventis CropScience, it was reported today by the Financial Times. According to FT.com, the price includes CropScience's debt of almost 2 billion Euro.

In early July, Wirtschafts Woche, a weekly German business magazine, reported that Aventis (www.aventis.com) was ready to sell its CropScience division, based here, to German chemicals groups BASF and Bayer. Aventis would not confirm the reports at that time. FT.com's report today noted that Bayer would not assume any risk from possible lawsuits associated with the StarLink corn incidents last year.
