PR Stunts

As a journalist and brand marketing promotion guy, I’m always looking at the odd stories that sometimes go unnoticed. Such was the case the other day when I read a small item in a national newspaper that said a New York City marketing firm was fined $7,000 for releasing thousands of red latex balloons that ended up in San Francisco Bay after a video game publicity stunt went awry this year. The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board said the balloons were a hazard to wildlife.

The would have been a great PR stunt for a company like LycoRed. Can’t you envision thousands of red tomatoes floating overhead in Anaheim or Las Vegas during a trade show?

By the way, the marketing company that produced the event was TrashTalkFCM. They have since changed their name to Awestruck Marketing Group.
