Demand for IPOs Shrivels
Nine companies rushed to go public last week before the IPO market shut down for the remainder of 2011. But it’s been a disappointing year for IPOs. Overall dollar amount raised was down. Surprisingly, the leader of the IPO pack this year was not a tech company. The year’s best performing IPO was GNC Holdings. Yes, that GNC. The one that sells products with your ingredients in it. Its shares are trading 69.4 percent above their offering price.
And something I didn’t know, GNC was founded in 1935. For those of you keeping score at home, that makes the company 76 years old.
