Another Healthy San Francisco Treat Gone Wrong

Yet another San Francisco City Supervisor wants to change what we put in our mouths. Supervisor Eric Mar is aiming to get fast-food restaurants that use toys to “lure" kids, or their parents, into buying fatty meals to cut back on the calories those meals bring with them. Mar introduced legislation that would replace some of those fat-filled treats with vegetables and fruit.

This all started when Mar found numerous McDonald’s and Burger King toys in his 10-year old daughter’s toy drawer. He’s been quoted as saying it was a wake-up call as to how many calories his daughter had consumed over the years. Oh Supervisor…how many calories are you ingesting along the way at these places?

Mar noted data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown since the birth of the Happy Meal in 1979, the obesity rate of children has quadrupled.

But who’s really to blame? I think it all falls on the responsibility of the parents. At 10 or younger, children are usually accompanied into a fast-food restaurant or any eating place by their parents. And don’t you think the parents or guardians are eating fast-food too? Cut out the fast food and we’d all be a lot lighter.
