NEW YORK—Twinlab Corp. appointed former Vitamin Shoppe CEO and current Vitamin Angels board director Tom Tolworthy as the company’s new president and chief executive officer.
“We are thrilled to have attracted a leader of Tom’s caliber," said Bill Nicholson, a co-founder of Ideasphere Inc., Twinlab’s parent company. “Tom’s dynamic executive leadership and proven track record for generating strong growth and improving profitability, coupled with his passion for the health and wellness industry, make him a perfect fit to lead Twinlab."
Tolworthy spent 10 years with The Vitamin Shoppe, including six years as CEO where he grew its retail business from 80 to 500 stores and increased revenue from $180M to more than $700M. He also became known for spearheading the company’s support of charitable and nonprofit endeavors. Currently, he serves as the director of the board for Vitamin Angels, a respected nonprofit organization that donates vitamins for use in developing areas and countries.
“I am truly delighted and privileged to have this opportunity to join Twinlab and become a part of the team that has built a legacy brand in the dietary supplement industry that has stood the test of time," Tolworthy said. “This is an exciting era within the health and wellness sector, and as I dig into my new role, I see the opportunities and possibilities for Twinlab to be infinite. “
Prior to joining the health and wellness industry, Tolworthy spent 12 years with Barnes & Noble. During his five-year tenure as president in the 1990s he led that company’s expansion, which included the opening of 400 new stores.
