New York Times writer Tara Parker-Pope posted a blog yesterday about SAMe supplements and depression that will likely drive sales of the product. The blog focuses on a new study out of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital that showed SAMe offering positive effects to those dealing with depression who have not been helped by prescription antidepressants. Since I frequently criticize the Times for its inaccurate reporting on supplements, I must take this opportunity to say "nice job". In addition to being balanced and accurate, the piece does not state that supplements are unregulated, loosely regulated, not regulated like drugs, de-regulated, etc. It is refreshing to see a piece about supplements in the Times that does not include these misleading claims.
