Naked Juice drinker allowed to dance

In case you missed yesterday's blog, my girlfriend's 11 year old was not going to be allowed to attend her end-of-year school dance because she brought a "dangerous energy drink" to school. However, the drink was a Naked Juice smoothie with no caffeine, all good stuff. Well, just like in "Footloose", she got to dance today. The principal understood, and the Naked Juice was vindicated. In fact, this little situation will probably result in the faculty getting a short course in what is a prohibited drink and what is not. I'm fine with that. There are products on the market now that include melatonin (is that even GRAS?), and other ingredients that I frankly don't want an 11 year old drinking. Here is the eyewitness report from my girlfriend, who is also passionate about our industry:

"I am happy to report that [she] was allowed to attend the dance after speaking with the principal. It seems that the teacher was not educated on the drink and made the assumption that it indeed was a energy drink. The school fully supports parents who long to offer their children fortified beverages and foods. [She] is probably dancing with her peers as we speak. The principal was very grateful for my phone call and will be speaking with the faculty about this very issue. I believe that not only will this clear up common misconceptions about these beverages but it may even red flag those beverages believed to be safe that are full of caffeine and other unhealthy things...  Thanks for your suggestion to speak out, it seems we have made a difference for one school!!!!!!"

If only the rest of our industry's issues were so easily addressed. Have a good weekend.
