FDA files criminal case

The FDA and FBI announced the filing of a criminal case against the owners of a company selling a sexual enhancement product that actually contained an erectile dysfunction drug. This should send a strong message to those selling adulterate and misbranded products. This California company, Vitapro Inc, is alleged to have sold a product called Vitalex as a "herbal sexual enhancement supplement" when the product actually contained an analog of acetildenafil, an unapproved drug. The criminal charges should send a strong message to others selling products that are adulterated or misbranded. Hopefully this is just the first of these criminal cases to be brought against those selling fraudulent products. This practice of putting drug ingredients into products and representing them as dietary supplements is illegal, dangerous and must be stopped. More than just sending a warning letter, issuing a recall, or imposing a fine, this action shows that the FDA, FBI and U.S. Attorney will bring criminal charges including prison time. It's about time!
