Rather than paraphrase the claims on this site, I think it is so well written that it deserves to be quoted directly:

"Flu defence is the first 100% natural general-purpose flu remedy that attacks the virus and boosts the immune system, with no known side effects. Now you can easily Prevent flu and support your bodies natural defences during acute symptoms. The fine of herbal extracts in Flu Defence, will not only boost your immune system, but will also neutralize various viruses. Studies show the ingredients in Flu Defense act a powerful immune booster, that exhibits strong antiviral action against influenza A & B, birdflu, herpes, swine flu (A/H1N1 or Influenza A virus subtype H1N1) and even HIV. Although there is much scientific proof on the effectiveness against influenza some studies of the elderberry herb (the main ingredient of Flu Defence) efficacy have specifically focused on H5N1 bird flu, one of the core components of the swine flu (A/H1N1 or Influenza A virus subtype H1N1) pandemic's biology. Laboratory trials have confirmed that elderberry extract effectively defeats H5N1 avian flu with up to 99% efficacy. If it has nearly this rate of effectiveness in combating the similar strain of swine flu, Flu Defence may prevent fatalities during a swine flu pandemic."

Needless to say, I sent this over to FDA and FTC shortly before writing this blog entry. Go get 'em boys. Again, I will be monitoring these sites to see what happens. On that note, the site I turned in the other day that was also making claims related to H1N1, cancer and HIV has made a couple of changes. It is still far from being in compliance with the law. The home page used to say:

"Preliminary work in the area of cancer research in addition to numerous testimonials has given some empirical evidence that ALKA-V6™ also has an anticancer effect. It has been noted in these studies that ALKA-V6™ can reduce tumor size, reduce remissions and aid in chemotherapy by increasing its effectiveness while also reducing its side effects. Researchers recently stated that ALKA-V6’s™ elemental and chemical properties give it unique electrochemical and structural characteristics to participate in reactions in colon cancer cells and the HIV-virus that are beneficial.
Although no direct research has yet been conducted to gauge the effect of ALKA-V6™ on H1N1 (Swine) or seasonal flu, because of its anti-viral properties, some people are taking ALKA-V6™ as an additional line of defense."

Today in that same position on their home page the language is:

"Although no direct research has yet been conducted to gauge the effect of ALKA-V6™ on various flu like symptoms, the anti viral properties, as discovered by a recent Texas State University study, has led some users to take ALKA-V6™ as an additional line of defense.
To hear how some people have benefited from using ALKA-V6™, we invite you to view testimonials that can be found on our website. You can also read about the latest ALKA-V6™ research put out by Texas State University – Dept. of Agriculture in their report titled “Test the Cancer Chemotherapeutic and Anti-Retroviral effects of ALKA-V6 in Cell Cultures and other in Vitro Systems.” "

However, as of today there is still a selecton of video testimonials about beating cancer with the product, as well as information about its anti-cancer and anti-retroviral effects. And, yes, I did look at the research that is on the site. That does not change the fact that dietary supplements cannot legally make these claims. If we disagree with that, then we must change the law. Until that happens, these claims are illegal. And if the product really does work, go get it approved as a drug and make billions while saving the world.
