My thoughts are with my friends in India
Mumbai (Bombay), India is a beautiful city full of wonderful people. It is the first place that I visited in India, and it is like no other place. In light of today's news of the cowardly attacks that have taken place there, my thoughts are with those who are there and those who call this place home and made me feel welcome.

Second FDA rep to join Dec. 10 webinar on new dietary ingredients
Just announced: A second representative from the FDA will be speaking on our Dec. 10 CRN webinar "Bringing New Ingredients to Market: FDA Guidance and Developments in the New Dietary Ingredient Notification Process." Dan Levy, PhD, acting supervisor of the New Dietary Ingredient Review Team at CFSAN/FDA is now joining Bill Frankos, PhD, director of the Division of Dietary Supplement Programs at CFSAN/FDA. This is our third live webinar produced with CRN, and it is a great opportunity to hear directly from FDA on this important issue. Joining FDA on the panel will be George Burdock, PhD, president of Burdock Group; Claudia Lewis-Eng, partner at Venable LLP; Andrew Shao, PhD, CRN's vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs; and Debbie Trinker, vice president of regulatory affairs at Kemin Health. The live event is 2 hours and will also include a question/answer period. The registration fee is $199 (and only $149 for CRN members). Click here to sign up.

In a world of confusion, you need FOCUS ... "Focus on the Future" that is
The economy, the election, web 2.0, ROI, competition, innovation, regulation, China, consolidation, sustainability, branding, credit crunch, commodity prices, intellectual property, baby boomers, emerging markets ... wow, there is a lot going on. What is a strategic thinker to do? My suggestion is that you plan to join us at "Focus on the Future" in Scottsdale Jan 20-23. With 20 high-level sessions focused on what the future holds for the dietary supplement and functional/healthy food industries, there is no other place where you can get so much strategic information at once. We already have speakers lined up from General Mills, Consumerlab.com, Mintel, Natural Marketing Institute, Tufts University, Sloan Trends, Packaged Facts, Datamonitor and more. To see the agenda, click here. This is also an opportunity to talk with an "A" list of leaders from the industry's best companies. And let's not forget about the golf and the weather. But really, the reason to come is the wealth of insight and data that you will take home with you. With today's challenges (and opportunities), this is a "must attend" event. Please consider joining us. You will be happy that you did.

SupplySide West sees big growth from food, cosmetic, and international companies
Although SupplySide West just concluded, it is apparent that innovation in dietary supplement, foods, beverages and cosmetics is still going strong. I had many personal conversations with both attendees and exhibitors, and from that I can say that the show was a success. I had one R&D person from a leading cosmetic company tell me that he found so many interesting ingredients and ideas that he had to ship the materials back separately. He couldn't fit it all in his luggage. And a top executive from one of the world's largest restaurant chains told me that he found a long list of ingredients and suppliers that he intends to work with. We also saw a jump in participants from outside the U.S. There were official delegations from both India and China, and visitors from dozens of other countries. On behalf of all of us at Virgo Publishing, please accept our sincere thanks for your participation and support. And please let us know what we can do to help you.

Greetings from the (almost) last day of the biggest SupplySide ever
Yesterday was a great day here at SupplySide West. It began with a full slate of presentations from FDA, Natural Marketing Institute, leadng companies such as Murad, Glowelle (the $7-per-unit "beauty from within" beverage) and top experts from the field of animal nutrition. The record-sized show floor was bustling with activity, and the big Opening Reception seemed busier than ever. Today, we do it all over again, but things keep on going right into Saturday with our two post-conference workshops on probiotics and essential fatty acids. And after that ... well, after that we all rest. I want to thank the thousands of you who joined us here in Vegas and made all of the work wothwhile.

People decide to go to Las Vegas at the last minute for much less important reasons after all. Book a ticket, book a hotel room, and register onsite at the Sands Convention Center. To check out the agenda, the searchable exhibitor list or the education program, just click here. You don't want to miss this.
