Probiotics Workshop

Consumers have tuned into probiotics and their health benefits. As the nutrition industry works to meet the demand for innovative and effective probiotic products, interested manufacturers and marketers need to stay on top of the ever-changing regulations and trends in this market segment. To this end, the International Probiotics Association (IPA) has developed a workshop to provide information on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the probiotics industry. The “IPA Probiotic Update: Insights & Perspectives from the Physician, Regulator, and Market Analyst” workshop will take place on Fri. Oct. 14, from 8:30 to 11:30am, directly following the SupplySide West 2011 trade show.  

Speakers will include David Mack, M.D., professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario; Ewa Hudson, manager of research in the global health and wellness industry at Euromonitor International; and Anthony Young, Esq., partner with Kleinfeld, Kaplan and Becker LLP.

The workshop will address many questions, including:

• What do physicians think about probiotics and their role in patient care?
• What unanswered questions do they have? What scientific issues need to be addressed?
• What regulatory developments in the U.S., EU and elsewhere are going to affect how you do business?
• What do consumers really want?
