B12 for Better Health?

10/17/2008

While the research is far from definitive, a growing number of nutrition experts are recommending more Americans look at adding vitamin B12 supplements or fortified foods to their diet to avoid deficiency and possibly avoid certain degenerative health conditions. The New York Times’ health writer Jane Brody addressed the B12 question, noting epidemiological studies have given some indication that low levels of B12 are associated with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, depression and osteoporosis; however, more studies are needed to determine cause and effect.
